RIGHTEOUS RUBBER FOR MUSCLE CARS by Bob McClurg PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT -ULTRA-HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES Continental Tire Co. or “Conti” as they are internationally known has just introduced their new line of Ultra-High Performance tires for Muscle Cars, Street Machines, Sport Compacts, and SUV’s. According to Conti’s Executive VP of Sales & Marketing, for Continental Tire North America (CTNA) Andreas Gerstenburger, “This is our biggest launch year in Continental Tire Company History. The company will be introducing 261 “Ultra High Performance” tire, or “UHP” new tire sizes or product fitments into the America’s (Canada included,) this year!” Leading the way will be Continental Tire’s Extreme Contact “DW” which is the company’s Ultra High Performance summer tire (rated for dry weather and rain,) with a total of 29 new fitments, or applications. Next up is the Continental “DWS” Ultra High Performance All Season Tire (rated for dry, rain and snow,) with 33 new product fitments, or applications. Then there’s Continental’s Extreme Weather contact for severe weather driving. Aspect ratio’s range from P205 to P345 in rim sizes from 16 to 21-inche sizes, (Conti “DW,”) and P195 to P325 in rim sizes 16 to 24-inches, (Conti “DWS.”) Both the DW and DWS also feature Conti’s exclusive “Tuned Performance Indicators.” Handling, stopping, and overall (wet & dry) drive quality were recently tested on a total of seven courses set up at famed California Motor Speedway (NASCAR oval Included,) using Toyota Celica, BMW and late-model Model Mustang GT’s. Both the MW and MWS overall drive quality proved far superior to other brands tested, as did skid pad numbers, wet course handling, and handling on both open and closed road courses.
